Sunquest Receives FDA Clearance for Updated Blood Bank Solution

Addition to Sunquest’s Integrated Solution Portfolio Continues Company’s Fulfillment of Patient Safety Vision

Tucson, Ariz., March 10, 2009 Sunquest Information Systems, Inc., a market leader in laboratory and diagnostic information systems, today announced that it received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the  newest edition of its Sunquest Blood Bank™ software application. The new version incorporates enhanced functionality for patient safety and is a key component of Sunquest’s integrated closed-loop blood-administration system.

“FDA clearance for our most advanced Blood Bank solution is another example of how Sunquest maintains its emphasis on safe, effective patient care,” said Kelly Feist, vice president of marketing and product management, Sunquest Information Systems, Inc.  “Our blood administration system demonstrates how information technology can help healthcare organizations achieve compliance with industry standards while making lab processes more efficient and of highest quality.”

As part of Sunquest’s end-to-end patient-safety solution for blood administration, Blood Bank is fully integrated with Sunquest’s positive patient ID specimen collection and transfusion management components.  Customers consistently report that collection and administration errors are reduced to zero when using the system and workflow-process improvements expedite the time to diagnosis and treatment by decreasing the sample-collection and result reporting turnaround times.

Sunquest will provide demonstrations of the solution at HIMSS09 in Chicago’s McCormick Center April 5 – 8, 2008 (Booth #7522).
